TINY REVIEWS: "Wicked", "No Other Choice", "It Was Just an Accident", "Train Dreams" and "After the Hunt"

WICKED: FOR GOOD It suffers from the fact the second part plot isn't as interesting as the first one's and the songs are much less iconic, but WICKED: FOR GOOD still delivers an entertaining and engaging cinematic experience, mostly because of a duo made in Heaven (Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande doing even better than in the previous movie, specially Grande who gets the opportunity to explore her character deeply). Great costume and production design, an improvement in cinematography and some interesting editing (see "The Girl in the Bubble" scenes) sure compensate the pretty average VFX work, . John M. Chu proves once again he loves the material and it shows. Not as good as the first one (I found Michelle Yeoh particularly bad in this one to be honest), but it still good enough to enjoy and be amazed by some parts. Their rendition of "For Good" got me crying almost as much as Elphaba and Glinda. RATING: 6,5/10 NO OTHER CHOICE Led by a mesmerizing perform...

The Actresses of the Decade - 90's

To be honest, I had a lot of fun looking back to past decades and selecting the biggest movie stars... So... I did it again, this time for the 90's! Of course I don't have the same level of insight because of my cinematic maturity at the time (I was a newborn back then), but considering what I watched and the passion my dad talks about movies of that time, I think I was able to make a fair selection! It's not always about delivering the best performance in order to be considered one of the greatest actresses of a decade - it also takes the ability to open a big production movie, to turn a small indie into a box-office hit or work with some of the most prestigious directors/auteurs these days. That's how I made this list: performances + prestige movies + box-office numbers! And we've got our 90's decade's biggest female movie stars:

News from TIFF: Julia Roberts, Kiki Layne, Julianne Moore and Viola Davis shine in Toronto

I will write an article about "Academy Awards 2019 Best Actress Race: The Bloodbath" (seriously, I've already started writing it and a study on Robert Downey Jr. too because of "Celebrating The Avengers", but TIFF and Oscar race are priorities now)... I was predicting all these actresses to enter the race and while I was pretty sure Layne would be a revelation (I trust Jenkins) and that Roberts would become an easy frontrunner after seeing Ben is Back teaser (seriously, her expression when she hugs Lucas Hedges is so moving it is Oscar-worthy alone), I was not expecting Moore and Davis to be these well-received! Right now, for Best Actress, I'm considering: Glenn Close ( The Wife ), Olivia Colman ( The Favourite ), Lady Gaga ( A Star Is Born ), Kiki Layne ( If Beale Street Could Talk , not many reviews yet, but early reactions are quite positive), Julia Roberts ( Ben is Back ), Viola Davis ( Widows ), Julianne Moore ( Gloria Bell ), Nicole Kidman (...
