Academy Awards 2018 nominees predictions: Best Picture (1st ROUND)

Waiting for my predictions for the Best Picture nominees? Well, the wait is over...!
I had to take a break from releasing my predictions because of the Fall film festival releases and (of course) because of some professional issues/duties I had to put in 1st place.
So, my first thought: variety! Yes, in spite of having 3 top contenders that are set during World War II (WWII), every movie is singular and there are some interesting (less conventional) movies trying to enter the Best Picture race.
So, the top 5 places go to Dunkirk, Darkest Hour, The Shape of Water, Mudbound and Three Billboards... not everyone's cut of tea, because some say I'm expecting too much from Mudbound when there are issues regarding its Netflix release, but I'm for the movie's quality and I must remind you there are a lot of people asking for a 5th Academy Award nominated female director (Dee Rees!). Three Billboards - a huge surprise for me, but the buzz from TIFF and first reviews suggest a critical and audiences' darling.
So, let's start:

Then, it's time for less obvious contenders and they go from a coming-of-age gay drama (Luca Guadagnino's Call Me By Your Name), to a box-office hit romantic comedy (The Big Sick), to a horror flick (Get Out), but without counting a Spielberg and a Woody Allen's upcoming dramas...

And now.... the lone contender:

#10: Wonder Wheel
Woody Allen movies tend to have a polarized reception between the AMPAS members: when the movie doesn't fit their taste, they ignore it; when the movie gets some respect, it gets recognized in the acting and screenplay categories; and when they love it, they love it madly. Last time Allen had one of his movies nominated for Best Picture, it was back in 2012 when  2011's Midnight in Paris got nominated... Will Wonder Wheel be able to fill Midnight's shoes?

For your consideration... Don't exclude these ones. From blockbusters to art-house pieces to the latest works of some of Hollywood's dearest auteurs, I believe these movies can turn into major award players / Oscar players easily:
#11: Last Flag Flying
#12: Wonderstruck
#13: Blade Runner 2049
#14: The Killing of a Sacred Deer
#15: Phantom Thread

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur...

ACTOR/ACTRESS OF THE MONTH: Michelle, ma belle

Michelle Pfeiffer Born: April 29, 1958 in Santa Ana, California, USA Oscar recognition:  1989 - Best Supporting Actress for Dangerous Liaisons (nom)  1990 - Best Leading Actress for The Fabulous Baker Boys (nom)  1993 - Best Leading Actress for Love Field (nom) One of the most beautiful women that ever walked on Earth, Michelle Pfeiffer was the A-list of the A-list in the late 80's and in the begining of the 90's, managing to get 6 Golden Globe nominations (winning one) 6 years in a round, for 6 amazing performances. She called attentions with her charm and voice in the movie musical flop Grease 2 , but she started gaining a "serious actress reputation" after appearing in Brian de Palma's Scarface . After Scarface , she became the biggest Hollywood movie star and delivered iconic performances as Susie Diamond in The Fabulous Baker Boys and as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Tim Burton's Batman Returns .  After some years away from stardo...
