Academy Awards 2023 winners final predictions

We are days away from the big Oscars night and it's time to publish my final winner predictions for each category. My picks were based not only in the movies' performance during the precursor awards and, specially, the guild awards and BAFTA, but also based on the general conception around the movie since every voter votes for every category, which means that each winner is the result of a consensus of all branches.

So, have a look:

So, as you can see I expect a big night for Everything Everywhere All At Once for not only taking home Best Picture but also for being the movie with most wins (5 total), followed by Elvis (4 wins) and then All Quiet On the Western Front and Top Gun: Maverick (2 wins each). So, no sweeps here... I believe the Academy voters will continue with the "spread the wealth" thinking they've adopted these recent years - in fact, I believe they will be kind with EEAAO in the above the line categories and then manage to give an Oscar here and there in the below the line categories, with the exception of Elvis, for which the industry has showed a huge support in the tech fields.
A note about Ice Merchants, the first ever Portuguese production to be nominated for an Oscar - I truly believe it can win since the favorite The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse is a case of style over substance while Gonzalez's work balances beauty and a study about loss. Go!!!!

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur...

TOP 30 Actors and Actress with or under 35 years old: 2012 (revised and updated)

Since my opinion about some of our "young stars" changed, I had to revise this list and, once I was editing it, I decided to have in consideration the actors' and actresses' future projects, which caused some major alterations in the ranking. 1. Ryan Gosling Born: November 12, 1980 (age 31) Breakthrough performance: The Believer (2001) Best performances: Half Nelson (2006); Lars and the Real Girl (2007); Blue Valentine (2010); Drive (2011); Crazy Stupid Love (2011) Oscar recognition: Best Leading Actor for Half Nelson (nom) What's next?  Gosling will have a supporting/co-leading role in Derek Cianfrance's second directorial work (and second reunion with Gosling), The Place Beyond the Pines , to be presented during Toronto International Film Festival and to have a late 2012 US release (maybe in order to get awards' traction). For 2013, he will appear in the delayed Gangster Squad , Nicolas Winding Refn directed Only God Forgive...
