Screen Actors Guild Awards 2011 winners

SAG Awards toke place some couple of hours ago and we already know the winners. There are no big surprises, there are only a few worries if you like The Social Network better than The King's Speech . Here's the list of the SAG Award winners of the movie categories: Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role Colin Firth for The King's Speech Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role Natalie Portman for Black Swan Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role Christian Bale for The Fighter Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role Melissa Leo for The Fighter Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble Cast in a Motion Picture The King's Speech Outstanding Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture Inception Well, I think that who's supporting The Social Network victory in the Oscar ceremony is having a big problem with the win of The King's Speech in the Outstanding Acting Ensemble categor

Tom Hooper wins the Directors Guild of America Award of Best Director

Tom Hooper won the DGA Award of Best Director of 2010 for his work in The King's Speech . It seems a little bit scary to me because I really want to see The Social Network winning the Oscar of Best Picture, but it seems that The King's Speech gained a lot of love, suddenly: it scored 12 Academy Award nominations while "The Facebook Movie" got 8, it won the PGA Award of Best Theatrical Motion Picture and now it takes home the DGA! BUT being a DGA winners doesn't mean you'll win the Oscar of Best Director: Steven Spielberg ( The Color Purple ), Rob Marshall ( Chicago ) or Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) won the DGA but not the Oscar in the same year, so still existing hope for David Fincher, AND winning the DGA doesn't mean winning the Oscar of Best Picture too ( Brokeback Mountain is coming to my mind at this moment)!

11 Movies of 2011 that may get Academy's love

2011 has some good reasons to go to the theatres and watch a couple of movies and I'm not talking about that Summer flicks for which ones we pay a ticket just "to see". In fact, 2011 seems to have a lot of "quality-movies", so here's my list of "potentitial-Oscar-quality-movies" (in alphabetical order): The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn Synopsis: " Tintin and his friends discover directions to a sunken ship commanded by Capt. Haddock's ancestor and go off on a treasure hunt ." Release date: 28 December 2011 (USA) Director: Steven Spielberg Writers: Steven Moffat, Edgar Wright and Joe Cornish (based on " Le secret de la licorne " and " Le trésor de Rackham Le Rouge ", comic books by Hergé) Starring: Jamie Bell, Daniel Craig, Andy Serkis and Simon Pegg Oscar potential: It may be the chance to the Academy recognize Steven Spielberg's work once again, specially for this adaptation of such a le

Academy Awards 2011 nominees list

I'm shocked, but I still breathing... And I'm not talking about the area of water in Australia (due to the floods), I'm talking about some big Oscar snubs this year. While I'm totally happy with the list of Best Picture nominees (it's equal to my predictions), but I can't understand why Ryan Gosling ( Blue Valentine ) was snubed in the Best Leading Actor category: Javier Bardem took his place between the nominees. Wait! I'm not saying that Bardem doesn't deserve this recognition, because he actually would deserve it IF this year the race didn't had other "SO Good" contenders. I really hoped that Gosling would get it and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Robert Duvall in the list instead of him, but I serious wasn't prepared at all to see Bardem (I knew it was possible, he was under my consideration, but I thought it won't happen) and I didn't expected to see Gosling snubed if Williams was nominated. Another shock: wh

Final Academy Awards 2011 nominees predictions

Well, the annoucement of this year's Academy Awards nominees is coming and I decided to post a list with all my final predictions in every category, including a big couple of categories for which I never decided to post here. So, here's the list (I hope it will became reality) with a little change in the Best Supporting Actor category if you look at my Best Supporting Actor predictions: BEST PICTURE 127 Hours Black Swan The Fighter Inception The Kids Are All Right The King's Speech The Social Network Toy Story 3 True Grit Winter's Bone BEST DIRECTOR Darren Aronofsky ( Black Swan ) David Fincher ( The Social Network ) Debra Granik ( Winter's Bone ) Tom Hooper ( The King's Speech ) Christopher Nolan ( Inception ) BEST LEADING ACTOR Jeff Bridges ( True Grit ) Jesse Eisenberg ( The Social Net work) Colin Firth ( The King's Speech ) James Franco ( 127 Hours ) Ryan Gosling ( Blue Valentine ) BEST LEADING ACTRESS Annette Bening ( The Kids Are All Right ) Nicole Kid

Academy Awards 2011 Best Animated Feature nominees predictions

With a RT percentage of 98% and with a critics' consensus that says "Boasting dazzling animation, a script with surprising dramatic depth, and thrilling 3-D sequences, How to Train Your Dragon soars", this movie has its place between the 3 nominees for the Oscar of Best Animated Feature pratically guaranteed. Plus, this movie was a big commercial sucess and have been getting some nods for Best Animated Feature from Golden Globes, BAFTA Awards, Critics Choice Awards and took home the Best Animated Feature Award of the Toronto Film Critics Association, which increases the chances of getting nominated for the Academy Award of Best Animated Feature even higher. Described by some critics as an "animation masterpiece of the new decade", The Illusionist may have its chance in the race for the Oscar of Best Animated Feature. The competition is very strong this year and Toy Story 3 and How to Train Your Dragon have their place between the nominees guaranteed, but Th

Academy Awards 2011 Best Adapted Screenplay nominees predictions

- Ben Affleck , Peter Craig and Sheldon Turner for The Town - Michael Ardnt for Toy Story 3 - Joel Coen and Ethan Coen for True Grit - Debra Granik and Anne Rosellini for Winter's Bone - Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network in serious consideration: David Lindsay-Abair ( Rabbit Hole ); Robert Harris and Roman Polanski ( The Ghost Writer ); in consideration: Simon Beaufoy and Danny Boyle ( 127 Hours )

Academy Awards 2011 Best Original Screenplay nominees predictions

- Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg for The Kids Are All Right - Derek Cianfrance , Joey Curtis and Cami Delavigne for Blue Valentine - Christopher Nolan for Inception - David Seidler for The King's Speech - Scott Silver , Paul Tamasy and Eric Johnson for The Fighter in serious consideration: Mark Heyman, Andres Heinz and John Mclaughlin ( Black Swan ) in consideration: Mike Leigh ( Another Year )

BAFTA Awards 2011 nominees list

WELL! BAFTA nominees list is out and it seems that The King's Speech and Black Swan lead the nominations. The Social Network does really well between the British and the Brits are in majority in the nominations. The Girl With Dragon Tattoo shines between some Oscar-locks movies and Noomi Rapace may be the winner of the Best Actress in a Leading Role prize ( Jamie Bell ( Billy Elliot ) and Scarlett Johansson ( Lost In Translation ) won a BAFTA award each one in spite of not being nominated for an Oscar) and the same may happen to Hailee Steinfeld for True Grit (Yes, maybe Portman will miss a win in the BAFTA Awards). I'm shocked that Nicole Kidman wasn't nominated, but it may be due to the fact of Rabbit Hole didn't get an United Kingdom release , I don't know. Finally, Javier Bardem seems to get some recognizment for his performance in Biutiful between the "BIG" awards. And.. hey! Why didn't The Social Network get a nod for its score in the

Golden Globes 2011 winners list

Golden Globe winners list came out and it seems that the best can really win even after some of the worst being nominated. No big surprises here but I would give the Golden Globe of Best Actor in a Motion - Comedy or Musical to Kevin Spacey for Casino Jack ... but it is "ALL RIGHT". The Social Network Picture keeps on the target of the title of "Best Picture Oscar winning movie", scoring a total of 4 Golden Globes (Best Motion Picture - Drama, Best Director, Best Screenplay and Best Original Score). Inception was completly snubed. In my opinion, Nicole Kidman should take the prize home, but I already knew that it was impossible and that Natalie Portman would have to take that! I'm glad that The Kids Are All Right was named the Best Motion Picture - Comedy or Musical, because I was really afraid that the tittle was given to Alice In Wonderland . Here's the complete list of the Golden Globes winners of the motion picture "section": BEST MOTION

Critics' Choice Awards 2011 winners

Well, last day the Critics' awarded their favorites and there's no big surprise between the winners, but I want to congrate The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo for receiving the Best Foreign Picture award (it really deserves the recognition) and the European cinema in general (also for the nominations of I Am Love and Biutiful (which is part Mexican and part Spanish, if I'm not wrong). I just want to know why wasn't Jennifer Lawrence the winner in the Best Young Actor/Actress category, specially when she's in a much more competitive race than Hailee Steinfeld and she have been beating some of serious Oscar contenders in some critics organizations awards... well, it's all beacause of the True Grit momentum (I'm not saying that Steinfeld didn't deserve the recognition, but she does, but I think Lawrence should get it because of such an extraordinary awards race without any category fraud that benefits her)!... If the Oscar winners list will be like the fo

APOLOGIZE

I posted yesterday the DGA Awards nominees list and it had a big mistake: I put Ethan and Joel Coen ( True Grit ) between the nominees instead of Darren Aronofsky ( Black Swan ) . So, I apologize everybody who read this wrong information. Sorry!...

Academy Awards 2011 Best Director nominees predictions

Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan Aronofsky is a very respected director with great movies like Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler in his amazing body of work and, now, it seems that he finally has a great chance to be recognized by the Academy. Black Swan was a sensation in Venice Film Festival and it's becoming a box-office sucess in spite of being a kind of "alternative" kind of movie. The movie seems by far one of the best movies of the year and has a nod in the Best Picture category almost guaranteed, but everyone knows that behind a good movie is a good director and the awards organizations know this too, nominating Aronofsky for a Golden Globe, a Critics' Choice and a Directors Guild of America Award nominations, among a big couple of critics' organizations nods and wins. So, let's see if it is in this race that Aronofsky will get his Best Director Oscar nod, but he has to face a strong competition with a couple of a-long-time-overdue-for-a-win dir

Directors Guild of America Award 2011 nominees list

Well, it seems that the following names will get an Oscar nod a couple of weeks from here. The Directors Guild of America have been nominated a lot of directors who got an Oscar nod in the year they received a DGA Award. Here's the list of this year's nominees: Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan David Fincher for The Social Network Tom Hooper for The King's Speech Christopher Nolan for Inception David O. Russell for The Fighter But being nominated isn't a way to have a guaranteed seat between the Oscar nominees. Even some winners didn't get an Oscar nod (like Steven Spielberg for The Color Purple ), there are few, but they exist. The strongest contender to take the DGA Award is David Fincher , for sure, and the "weakest" nominee that may not get an Academy Award of Best Director nominee easier is David O. Russell , specially with the Coen brothers ( True Grit ), Danny Boyle ( 127 Hours ) and Debra Granik ( Winter's Bone ) in his way to the Academ

Academy Awards 2011 Best Supporting Actress nominees predictions

Amy Adams for The Fighter While I must confess that I don't like Amy Adams at all for some unknown reason (I confess that I would prefer see Mila Kunis or Lesley Manville instead of her between the nominees), I must admit that this girl can act in a very natural way and I won't be surprised if she appears between the Academy Award of Best Supporting Actress nominees. Her performance in The Fighter received raves from the critics and the audiences in general liked her, so it isn't surprising seeing her between the nominees of a lot of awards (Golden Globes, SAG Awards, Critics' Choice Awards and critics organizations' awards), specially for being part of a movie that breathes "Oscar oxygen". The Academy like pretty women and Adams is pretty. The Academy like pretty women playing the leading character's "trophy wife/girlfriend" or the pretty women who support the leading character and Adams does something like this in The Fighter . Plus, she

Academy Awards 2011 Best Supporting Actor nominees predictions

Christian Bale for The Fighter Bale is one of those actors who are very overdue for an Oscar nomination, specially when he has such a great body of work with amazing performances in every movie he does. He has the talent, he has the previous critical acclaim, he's well-known, he's overdue for an Oscar and he plays a (ex)boxer in The Fighter : he has everything to get a nod for Best Supporting Actor this year, specially after all the critical praise the movie got. In fact, Bale have been collecting awards since the awards season began: between a lot of critics organizations awards, Bale is currently nominated for a Golden Globe of Best Supporting Actor, for two SAG Awards (Outstanding Supporting Actor and Outstanding Ensemble Performance) and for two Critics' Choice Awards (Best Acting Ensemble and Best Supporting Actor) and he won the National Board of Review of Best Supporting Actor. I think the Academy will recognize such an amazing actor this year, giving him a nominati
