127 Hours releasing in November 2010 = Oscar contender?

" Danny Boyle's 127 Hours Coming Nov. 5 Source: Fox Searchlight Pictures July 30, 2010 Fox Searchlight Pictures has set a November 5 release date for Danny Boyle's 127 Hours. 127 Hours is the true story of mountain climber Aron Ralston's (James Franco) remarkable adventure to save himself after a fallen boulder crashes on his arm and traps him in an isolated canyon in Utah. Over the next five days Ralston examines his life and survives the elements to finally discover he has the courage and the wherewithal to extricate himself by any means necessary, scale a 65 foot wall and hike over eight miles before he is finally rescued. Throughout his journey, Ralston recalls friends, lovers (Clemence Poesy), family, and the two hikers (Amber Tamblyn and Kate Mara) he met before his accident. Will they be the last two people he ever had the chance to meet? A visceral, thrilling story that will take an audience on a never before experienced journey and prove what we can do when we

The new Hulk

It seems that Mark Ruffalo get the role of Hulk/Bruce Banner in The Averengers upcoming movie. A good replacement, but it's difficult be better than Edward Norton, but I've a feeling that Ruffalo is going to do a good job!

Gravity

There are developments about Alfonso Cuaron's space epic (I don't know if it will be an epic). After Angelina Jolie pass the female leading role when Robert Downey Jr. got the leading man one, now we've rumours that Scarlett Johansson will sign for the lead role. " Scarlet Johansson may star in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity Earlier this year Robert Downey Jr. signed up to star in Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity, however he will not be the lead. Downey will play the leader of a team posted at a remote space station. While he and a female colleague are travelling outside the space station, the other team members are decimated by debris from an exploded satellite. Much of the film is devoted to the females struggle to get back to Earth and her daughter. Angelina Jolie was attached at one point ; however she passed, and now Scarlet Johansson may be taking on the role instead. NY Daily News say that Johansson “verbally agreed” last week to take on the leading-lady role. Both Johansson

Is Meryl Streep the next "Iron Lady"?

Recently, some news about a Margaret Tatcher's biopic came out with Meryl Streep interested in playing the legendary lady. " HollywoodNews.com: Meryl Streep is arguably one of the most talented actresses of all time. Pathe Films has stated that Streep has “expressed interest in playing Margaret Thatcher in a new film about Britain’s first female prime minister” that will be directed by Phyllida Lloyd (“Mamma Mia!”), reports FOX News . Apparently, no agreement is formally in place yet, but discussions are already underway. They also report that the film is provisionally titled “The Iron Lady” and tells the story of a woman who successfully broke through the barriers in a male-dominated world. " (article from http://www.hollywoodnews.com/2010/07/01/meryl-streep-interested-in-playing-margaret-thatcher/ ) Well, well... is it the role that will give Meryl Streep her deserved third Oscar? Maybe. Meryl and Margaret have some similarities and nobody can say that Streep doesn'

Janis Joplin will have her biopic

"LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Amy Adams is heading to Woodstock. The actress will play Janis Joplin in a biopic of the ‘60s singer, Access Hollywood has confirmed. A biopic for Janis, who scored such hits as “Me and Bobby McGee” and “Piece of My Heart,” before her career was cut short by a drug overdose at age 27, has long been in the works. One project, “The Gospel According To Janis,” with Zooey Deschanel attached to star, was in development in the mid-2000s, while a different film, to star Lili Taylor and executive produced by Jonathan Demme, was floated a few years prior. Singer Pink also formerly circled a Janis project, according to Deadline. The struggle to get the singer’s life on screen was parodied on NBC’s “30 Rock” in a storyline where Jenna Maroney (Jane Krakowski) was to play a fictionalized version of the star after failing to secure her life-rights. The new film will be produced by “The Twilight Saga” producer Wyck Godfrey. Deadline reported that the project has yet to f

"The Girl With Dragon Tattoo" will be an unkown actress

"Five unknown actresses are competing for 'Dragon Tattoo' lead Role of Lisbeth Salander in English language remake are up for grabs Five unknown actresses are in the running to play hacker Lisbeth Salander in the American version of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo . Director David Fincher , whose latest project is the highly anticipated Facebook film "The Social Network", screen tested the five finalists this week, reports Deadline . They are Australian actresses Emily Browning , Sophie Lowe and Sarah Snook , American Rooney Mara and an unnamed French actress. Browning is the most experienced so far, having appeared in two Lemony Snicket films and the upcoming "Sucker Punch". Mara has a slight edge, having worked with Fincher in "The Social Network". More established actresses, including "Twilight" lead Kristen Stewart and Oscar-nominated Carey Mulligan have expressed an interest in starring in the films, based on Swedish author S

Kurt Cobain biopic

Kurt Cobain is a dead rock star. Kurt Cobain is a Grunge icon. Kurt Cobain is an idol. Kurt Cobain is a legend. Kurt Cobain is a god! Kurt Cobain is one of the most controversial personalities of the past century and maybe one of the most controversial ever. So, doing a biopic about such as icon is almost inevitable and this is going to happen! In fact, there's a lot of rumours about this movie, but since some time ago the dream film is becoming reality: there's an attached director (Oren Moverman), there's a script and there's casting rumors. There's an article about Oren Moverman that was published yesterday: " According to Collider.com, Oscar-nominated director Oren Moverman is set to helm and rewrite the anticipated biopic of Kurt Cobain. Moverman has established his biopic bona fides with the screenplay for I’m Not There, the Todd Haynes-directed film that was a decidedly bizarre (and un-mainstream) trip through the life and psyche of Bob Dylan (portrayed

The 15 Biggest Acting Oscar Snubs of the Last Decade (2000-2009)

Everything that's written in the comments is only my personal view of each case. The names are disposed by year and alphabetically. I edited this list 30th June, 2011. Here's the list: Christian Bale for American Psycho 2000 Comment : a cult fearless magnetic performance by Bale that put him on the radar and that would deserve an Oscar nod in the Best Actor category than Ed Harris' one in Pollock . Hey, Bale was so great and made the character so unforgettable that someone decided to create Dexter! Björk for Dancer in the Dark 2000 Comment : in spite of delivering a raw, emotionally naked and disturbing performance as a mother who's turning blind, Björk should got a Best Actress nod for being so fantastic as Selma in Dancer in the Dark in that year for such a remarkable performance in a Lars von Trier movie, but it seems the Academy doesn't like von Trier's genius that much! She was able to be so catching and more sweet than Juliette Binoche in Ch

The Avengers - a dream cast in a "nightmare" or not?

After hearding about the Edward Norton 's replacement as Hulk in a Marvel comic book blockbuster named The Avengers , I decided to make a little research about the project. There's a superstar confirmed cast for this project. Just see: - Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark (Iron Man); - Chris Evans as Steve Rogers (Captain America); - Chris Hemsworth as Thor; - Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury; There's a lot of rumored A-list actors too: - Don Cheadle as Col. James "Rhodey" Rhodes (War Machine); - Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff (Black Widow); - Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton (Hawkeye); and we have Mark Ruffalo in talks to play Bruce Banner (Hulk). But is it a good thing? I mean, it's good for the project having a lot of famous actors in the cast? Well, the result was awesome in Iron Man and Iron Man 2 (in my opinion) and all this actors know how to share the big screen in order to make all the ensemble cast shine. One of the major problems of the movie is

Academy Awards 2011 Best Adapted Screenplay nominees predictions (1st round)

- Ben Affleck , Peter Craig and Sheldon Turner for The Town - Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth for Fair Game - Debra Granik and Anne Rosellini for Winter's Bone - Aaron Sorkin for The Social Network - Peter Weir for The Way Back in consideration: Rula Jebreal ( Miral ); Mike Leigh ( Another Year ); David Lindsay-Abaire ( Rabbit Hole );

Academy Awards 2011 Best Original Screenplay nominees predictions (1st round)

- Michael Ardnt for Toy Story 3 - Armando Bo , Nicolás Giocobone and Alejandro González Iñárritu for Biutiful - Lisa Cholodenko and Stuart Blumberg for The Kids Are All Right - Sofia Coppola for Somewhere - Christopher Nolan for Inception in consideration: Paul Attanasio and Lewis Colick ( The Fighter ); Terrence Malick ( The Tree of Life ); Peter Morgan ( Hereafter );

Academy Awards 2011 Best Director nominees predictions (1st round)

- David Fincher for The Social Network : after The Curious Case of Benjamin Button , Fincher promises us something big in an adaptation of a book about the creation of the Facebook. He directed Se7en , Fight Club , Zodiac and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button , so I've no doubt that The Social Network will be great, but I need to have a bigger notion of the film to say if Fincher will get his second nod. But, by now, the expectations are big and Fincher seems a promising contender in Best Director category (let's see if the Academy will be one of Fincher's friends in Facebook). - Alejandro González Iñárritu for Biutiful : the way he paints his movies is unique and in Biutiful he makes everything compelling. His directing style has already been recognized by the Academy when he directed Babel, but, this year, Iñárritu brings a sad story turning in a cinematical masterpiece. A strong contender in Best Director category with a touching Spanish language movie. - Debra Granik

Academy Awards 2011 Best Supporting Actress nominees predictions (1st round)

- Hiam Abbass for Miral: she can get a nod for playing Hind al-Husseini in a Julian Schnabel movie. The Academy love when actors/actresses give strong performances while playing someone that really exist(ed) and this may be a nice chance to Abbass but there's a category problem - she can be seen as a supporting or a leading actress - but this is producers' responsability and I'm sure they will support her as Supporting Actress. - Helena Boham Carter for The King's Speech: Helena is a terrific actress and in spite of her good works in recent movies, she didn't received any Oscar nod since The Wings of the Dove . This year, she'll appear as Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, king George's Queen consort and the last actress who portrayed a queen of England win an Oscar (Helen Mirren for The Queen ). But this year, we have a lot of competition in this category and Boham Carter's nod may not be a guarantee. - Elle Fanning for Somewhere: being daughter of a celebrity i

Academy Awards 2011 Best Supporting Actor nominees predictions (1st round)

- Christian Bale for The Fighter: Bale's living a golden era for himself: after critical acclaimed movies and blockbusters ( The Machinist, Batman Begins, The Prestige, I'm Not There, 3:10 to Yuma and The Dark Knight ) one of his life's apogee can be this year if he will get a nod for the Academy Award of Best Supporting Actor. His role as a boxer in a brother's drama movie sounds Oscar's kind of role and if the movie will be well-received (which is very probable just because David O. Russell is a great director), Bale should get a nomination for merit and as a reward for his great body of work (and maybe win!). One of the strongest contenders in this categorie. - Ed Harris for The Way Back: after four Oscar nods without winning once, Harris may have his chance this year for his Mr. Smith in The Way Back . He worked with Peter Weir before (The Truman Show) and his performance in that movie gave him an Academy Award nod for Best Supporting Actor. This year, he shar

Academy Awards 2011 Best Leading Actress nominees predictions (1st round)

- Annette Bening for The Kids Are All Right : Benning is a bit overdue for an Oscar winning and her role as a lesbian mother named Nic seems amazing and may give her a statuette in Kodac Theatre just because Annette Bening received acclaimed reviews in almost her cinema works ( The Grifters, American Beauty, Being Julia, Running With Scissors ) and I've a feeling that her The Kids Are All Right performance is not less than awesome (she got raves for her performance). If she will not received an Oscar or, at least, a nomination, something's going wrong with the Academy. - Anne Hathaway for Love & Other Drugs : early reviews say that she's "wonderful" and "she knocks it out of the park" as a woman who suffers from Parkinson's and we know that she is a good actress with some bad movie choices, but, in spite of this, she's really talented and she can shine when she has the right material. She shares the big screen with Jake Gyllenhaal (a very go

Academy Awards 2011 Best Leading Actor nominees predictions (1st round)

- Javier Bardem for Biutiful : everybody knows that Bardem is an excelent actor and his role as a man involved in illegal activity who is confronted by an old childhood friend, who is now a police officer, seems strong and the kind of role Academy loves. Besides, Bardem received the Cannes Film Festival Award of Best Male Performance, which is a good indicator of how amazing he's in this Alejandro González-Iñárritu Spanish language movie. One of the strongest contenders. - Stephen Dorff for Somewhere : Dorff isn't a Hollywood star as many Oscar contenders in acting categories, which can be a good thing for him - people see the character easilier than the actor itself. He's a good actor (I just saw him in Felon and I like the way he acts) and Coppola is a specialist in making her movies' actors shinning (just the case of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson in Lost In Translation ). Somewhere seems a very personnal style movie, the kind of picture with good roles for the
