- Christian Bale for The Fighter: Bale's living a golden era for himself: after critical acclaimed movies and blockbusters (The Machinist, Batman Begins, The Prestige, I'm Not There, 3:10 to Yuma and The Dark Knight) one of his life's apogee can be this year if he will get a nod for the Academy Award of Best Supporting Actor. His role as a boxer in a brother's drama movie sounds Oscar's kind of role and if the movie will be well-received (which is very probable just because David O. Russell is a great director), Bale should get a nomination for merit and as a reward for his great body of work (and maybe win!). One of the strongest contenders in this categorie.
- Ed Harris for The Way Back: after four Oscar nods without winning once, Harris may have his chance this year for his Mr. Smith in The Way Back. He worked with Peter Weir before (The Truman Show) and his performance in that movie gave him an Academy Award nod for Best Supporting Actor. This year, he shares the screen with talented actors (Jim Sturgess, Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan...) and the movie itself seems very good and I've a feeling he'll shine again and maybe he'll take the Oscar home.
- John Hawkes for Winter's Bone: I know his face from Lost TV series but he never called my attention until I read some of Winter's Bone reviews. His role seems juicy and the movie has been received lots of raves since Sundance Film Festival. Unknown faces are welcomed by the Academy and Hawkes may easily be on the next Oscar ceremony's red carpet as an Academy Award nominee actor.
- Sam Rockwell for Conviction: one of the nowaday's best actors doesn't have an Academy Award nomination and that's a crime. His performance in Moon was snubbed by the Academy but I don't think the Academy want to loose credibility, so, if Conviction will be well-received and if Rockwell's performance will received raves (what happens in almost his movies) he surely receives an Academy Award nomination.
- Mark Ruffalo for The Kids Are All Right: with a great body of work (The Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Collateral, Zodiac, Shutter Island) it's time to give an Academy Award nomination for Ruffalo and reviews say he's great in The Kids Are All Right. Playing a charming sperm donnator gave him raves and I hope it gave him nods, specially an Oscar one - he deserves it!
