- The Fighter: David O. Russell have been sunbbed by Academy in spite of having a great body of work. His talent may be recognized if The Fighter will get a nod for Best Picture. Academy loves boxer's storys and this one is really promising, specially with such a dream cast: Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams and Melissa Leo. Just watch Rocky's and Million Dollar Baby's case: Academy loves box more than another sport!
- Inception: After amazing movies like Memento, The Prestige and The Dark Knight, Christopher Nolan deserves a direction nod and a Best Picture one for this movie about dreams. In fact Inception have been acclaimed by critics last days and it will be released next week. Reviews says that it's a smart thriller and a blockbuster promise - the kind of movie Academy usually fall in love.
- The Kids Are All Right: an indie flick that have been received acclaimmed reviews last weeks and in Sundace Film Festival. It's a comedy with such a respectful ensemble cast with names like Annette Bening, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo as lead actors and an original story about controversial themes and the modern family notion. A light, funny and smart movie that Academy usually like.
- Somewhere: Sofia Coppola is back (and that's a great new) with a movie that seems a hopeful contender for a Best Picture nod. Watching the trailer made me feel good: it was... well... sweet and Dorff and Fanning chemistry seems wonderfully beautiful. After Lost In Translation (one of the major last decade's indie classics and maybe one of the biggest ever), Coppola brings us a picture with the same personnal style. So, why not a Best Picture nod?
- Toy Story 3: an epic comedy-adventure animated feature that will take home the Oscar for Best Animated Feature with no doubt. It's a really acclaimed movie, everybody love Toy Story and there are 10 possible nominees for Best Picture! I don't see any reasons for Toy Story 3 won't get a nod for Best Picture.
- The Tree of Life: it's a true question mark. Nobody knows exactly what it will be, but... Hey! It's a Malick's movie and they are all amazing! The Thin Red Line was a kind of a cinematical triumph and The New World was amazing too (in spite of didn't get Academy's love). We will have Sean Penn and Brad Pitt in this one (two of Hollywood's darlings) and it's described as an ambicious epic style movie - the kind of movie the Academy gives the golden statue. A strong golden and hopeful question point, but a strong contender.
- The Social Networl: everybody has facebook, but a lot of people doesn't know the story of this social network. This David Fincher project sounds interesting and almost no one has doubts about Fincher's directiong talent specially after movies like Seven, Fight Club or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Let's wait and see but by now, The Social Network sounds promising.
- The Way Back: to be completly honest, I didn't read the novel, but Academy loves movies about World War II and we have Peter Weir directing this one and names like Jim Sturgess, Colin Farrell, Ed Harris and Saoirse Ronan starring in it. A good contender, that's for sure.
- Winter's Bone: Sundance loved it and gave the movie the Grand Jury Prize and the Best Screenplay award. Berlin also decided award this indie movie and the critics simply fell in love by Winter's Bone (an adaptation to the big screen of a novel woth the same name). Jennifer Lawrence, John Hawkes and the ensemble cast in general give strong performances and we have a woman directing it (the acclaimed Debra Granik). A Best Picture nomination for Winter's Bone is inevitable.
