- Hiam Abbass for Miral: she can get a nod for playing Hind al-Husseini in a Julian Schnabel movie. The Academy love when actors/actresses give strong performances while playing someone that really exist(ed) and this may be a nice chance to Abbass but there's a category problem - she can be seen as a supporting or a leading actress - but this is producers' responsability and I'm sure they will support her as Supporting Actress.
- Helena Boham Carter for The King's Speech: Helena is a terrific actress and in spite of her good works in recent movies, she didn't received any Oscar nod since The Wings of the Dove. This year, she'll appear as Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, king George's Queen consort and the last actress who portrayed a queen of England win an Oscar (Helen Mirren for The Queen). But this year, we have a lot of competition in this category and Boham Carter's nod may not be a guarantee.
- Elle Fanning for Somewhere: being daughter of a celebrity is something that Sofia Coppola knows, so I think she gave Elle Fanning the right informations and directions to make the young actress shine in this movie. Elle Fanning is a great actress, in spite of being in her sister's shadow (Dakota Fanning), but I think that this year Elle will be the most shinning of the Fanning sisters if she will get raves and a lot of awards and nods. But there's a little problem: the Academy didn't recognized Scarlett Johansson's performance in Lost In Translation in spite of the good critics and some major awards' nods, so, I keep my fingers crossed in order to didn't see the same kind of injustive this year in a Coppola's movie.
- Lesley Manville for Another Year: she shinned in Cannes Film Festival and everybody knows that Mike Leigh can make every actor/actress deliver one of his/her career's best performance and this happened with Manville. I didn't know her (it may be a crime, but I admit it) but I was impressed by her naturality and charisma that I watched in some film's excerpts I saw in Youtube. She seems deserving an Academy Award nomination but I really don't know if she will can (there's a lot of strong performances by supporting actresses this year).
- Julianne Moore for The Kids Are All Right: if Moore will be promoted as a supporting instead of leading actress, I can say we've a really strong contender in this category. She was nominated for 4 Academy Awards and never won. Last year her performance in A Single Man was snubbed by the Academy and a win this year may be an excellent last laugh. She's a terrific actress and the critics gave great reviews to her performance in The Kids Are All Right. Ladys and gentlemen, we've a strong contender to win the Oscar of Best Supporting Actress here!
in consideration: Kristin Scott-Thomas (Nowhere Boy); Kerry Washington (Mother and Child); Naomi Watts (Mother and Child);
