Academy Awards 2018 nominees predictions: Best Director (1st ROUND)

Of course it is too soon to predict the Academy Award nominees since the "Oscar releases" will only come around September/October/November/Christmas, but sometimes early word on some cinematic works and some early releases give me enough factors to have under consideration. This way and after presenting you my TOP 5 contenders, it's time to present the other contenders I have under serious consideration: #6: Jordan Peele for Get Out - A directorial debut that turned into one of the most acclaimed movies of the year and a box-office hit. In fact, AMPAS doesn't always go for the horror genre, but Get Out is exceptionally well-made and full of satire and small messages... and Peele is the young visionary director behind all of it!   #7: Woody Allen for Wonder Wheel - The Academy members love Woody Allen, but last time he was nominated for Best Director it was for the huge hit Midnight in Paris ! Early word on Wonder Wheel is positive, but it seems more of

Academy Awards 2018 nominees predictions: BEST SUPPORTING ACTRESS (1st ROUND)

Of course it is too soon to predict the Academy Award nominees since the "Oscar releases" will only come around September/October/November/Christmas, but sometimes early word on some cinematic works and some early releases give me enough factors to have under consideration. This way and after presenting you my TOP 5 contenders, it's time to present the other contenders I have under serious consideration: #6: Claire Foy for Breathe - If you watch the trailer, she seems to be the heart and soul of the movie and while I believe she has one of the best female roles of the year, I have some doubts about the movie itself. Maybe Breathe will be one of those cases of movies that are rescued by amazing acting... I believe it will be the case. I don't know in which category she will be placed/campaigned but she's one of the strongest contenders. Supportive wives tend to get the Supporting Actress label, so that's why I placed her here - or will she be thi

REVIEW: "Get Out"

Genre: Horror, Drama, Thriller Directed by: Jordan Peele Written by: Jordan Peele Starring:  Daniel Kaluuya, Allison Williams, Bradley Whitford, Catherine Keener, Betty Gabriel, Marcus Henderson and  LilRel Howery In Theaters: February 24, 2017 (USA wide) Runtime: 104 minutes I watched Get Out a long time ago (I guess it was in May), but I re-watched this one yesterday and I thought it was worth of a review.   The movie begins as the typical "boy meets gf's parents" movie: "Do they know that I am black?". And then the Jordan Peele builds all the movie's plot around this concern from its leading man.    Get Out succeeds not by trying to be extremely original or adding never-seen before elements to the plot, but it succeeds thanks to a writer/director that refuses overthinking and decides to include a social satire in it: Obama was the best president or "Black... is in fashion". What happens next... made me hold my breathe

Academy Awards 2018 nominees predictions: BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR (1st ROUND)

Of course it is too soon to predict the Academy Award nominees since the "Oscar releases" will only come around September/October/November/Christmas, but sometimes early word on some cinematic works and some early releases give me enough factors to have under consideration. This way and after presenting you my TOP 5 contenders, it's time to present the other contenders I have under serious consideration: #6: Jason Mitchell for Mudbound - He's the best chance Dee Ree's Mudbound at scoring an acting nomination at the Oscars. Reviews are solid and so it's his buzz. Award season will dictate if he goes beyond being "just a contender". A good alternate to Boyega if they want to nominate another black actor instead. # 7: Laurence Fishburne for Last Flag Flying - The third element of the leading men of Linklater's upcoming new movie. Fishburne is a gifted actor for sure, but Carell and Cranston can be much more charismatic figures which
