Woody Allen will cameo in his own film; Young stars up for "The Hunger Games"; "Prometheus" has a lead male; Cruise is "At Mountains of Madness"
- In a recent interview, Woody Allen said a lot of things, but there are a lot of interesting words he said about his upcoming projects. He revealed that he will have a small part in his next movie that will filmed in Rome, that he would love to work with Diane Keaton (Annie Hall) again and that people want to see "Leonardo DiCaprio chasing Scarlett Johansson", or something like this. Are these words a kind of "teaser trailer" for upcoming news about his new project? It would be interesting...
- The Hunger Games... the next big screen adaptation worldwide sucess is becoming a nearly reality, specially with the most recent casting news. Academy Award nominee actress Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone) is the favourite to grab the lead role of Katniss Everdeen. It is a sought after role as the film is expected to be a hit, other actresses in contention are reportedly Abigail Bresling (Little Miss Sunshine), Hailee Steinfeld (True Grit) and the only non-Academy Award nominated actress of the list: Emily Browning (Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events).
Here's the synopsis that I found in IMDb:
"In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives."
Well, it may become a commercial sucess, but it doesn't seem the kind of material that "a good movie" is composed (at least about the storyline issue). I hope that Steinfeld and Breslin won't have a role in this one, I them doing something better and more... MORE! I've a strange feeling it will be just a popcorn movie... - Logan Marshall-Green (O.C. TV series) will be portraying a crewman on the ship who is also the love interest for Rapace’s character in the upcoming Ridley Scott's (Gladiator) sci-fi flick Prometheus.
Besides Marshall-Green, the cast includes Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds) and Charlize Theron (Monster). The movie will start shooting in June 2011 and it is set to release in 2012. - Tom Cruise seems to be having a shinning career turn. After being one of the most sucessful actors in the 90's and begining of the 21st century, Cruise seems to be up for a lot of interesting projects (or very lucrative promised ones, at least). He's part of the upcoming screen adaptation of the hit rock musical Rock of Ages and now we have him "At the Mountains of Madness", that will be directed by Guillermo Del Toro. According to Collider, "The film—which is based on the horror novella by H.P. Lovecraft and recounts a scientific expedition that uncovers ancient horrors dwelling in the mountains of Antarctica—has long been a passion project of del Toro’s and it looked like he was finally going to get it off the ground as a 3D film and with James Cameron attached as a producer. Cruise had been circling the role as recently as last month and it looks like he’s finally on board. Producer Don Murphy tells io9 that not only is Cruise attached to star, but filming is scheduled to begin in June."
An interesting comeback of Tom Cruise, don't you think? After the failures of Knight & Day and Valkyrie, Cruise seems to be back on top with a couple of very promising projects... I don't like him as the person he seems to be and, most times, as an actor, but I like when there are good projects coming out!
