COMMENT: Few were the Best Picture nominees that didn't score a PGA nod before. In fact, since the AMPAS expanded its possible number of Best Picture nominees, only The Blind Side, A Serious Man, Winter's Bone, Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close, The Tree of Life and Amour didn't score a PGA award nomination before. This way, I see Saving Mr. Banks and Blue Jasmine as the weakest contenders here (and I can see Inside Llewyn Davis taking one of these's spot in the Oscars) and given the huge SAG support to Dallas Buyers Club and its Critics' Choice Award for Best Film nod, I truly believe the AIDS drama will be part of the final cut of Best Picture nominees. Her and The Wolf of Wall Street scored an important nod, proving the most sceptical Oscar folks that they really are between the 10 frontrunners for the top prize. In the Animated Theatrical Motion Picture field, Frozen, Monsters University and Despicable Me 2 are closer to an Oscar nomination than ever, but I still believe the Academy members will also go for more traditional and less mainstream choice for the the other remaining spots (like Ernest & Celestine and The Wind Rises), not because The Croods or Epic aren't good, but because this field always brings more "alternative" competitors besides the obvious and extremely popular contenders.
