TUNER
Gripping, thrilling, emotionally satisfying and brilliantly edited, Tuner proves Daniel Roher is a director to watch and Leo Woodall has everything needed in order to become a major movie star (and Dustin Hoffman still has some acting gems to deliver). It might draw some ressemblance with 2017's Baby Driver, but unlike Ansel Elgort's starring vehicle, Tuner is far darker and it feels more like a personal affair than an entertaining flick. A movie about sound, a movie about family and a movie about doing means that justify outcomes, Tuner can well be one of the very best movies of the year (so far at least). It has it all: a pathos, a soul, a heart and... it's such an entertaining movie ride!

TOY STORY 5
Another solid TOY STORY adventure that perfectly blends entertainment with soulful meaning, this one is an animated satire about one of the most human things: playing and use your imagination. In an era of tech and luminous touch screens, this one wastes no time when it comes to make a satire about how devices are taking childhood away. It's an engaging adventure movie with extremely sensitive aspects that it handles beautifully not only because of a good script but also because of a talented voice cast that clearly understood the movie's mission. More than good and sentimentally rewarding, it feels like a necessary movie for today's children and parenting adults.

PROJECT HAIL MARY
A bit overlong but full of wonder and led by a charismatic Ryan Gosling, Project Hail Mary is about enjoying the trip as it founds humanity in the little things. The sci-fi aspects and the visuals are amazing, a true feast for the eyes and Daniel Pembleton's score sure elevates every scene, but Project Hail Mary only fails at runtime: sometimes it felt too long and there were moments I lost attention focus, but then the narrative caught me again. Yes, Sandra Hüller's take on "Sign of the Times" is one of the movie's peak moments due to its emotional weight, but what really got me was the ending. In the end, Project Hail Mary is a technically superior sci-fi adventure with a satisfying third act that makes the journey totally worthy of its screentime.

THE SHEEP DETECTIVES
Surprisingly enjoyable and engaging, this one is a perfect Sunday movie to watch at home. A "put a smile on your face" Summer movie that's also family friendly. It feels a family version of Knives Out with talking sheep and what sounds like a childish premise, but it has a quite smart and heartfelt quality actually. The all-star ensemble cast composed by Hugh Jackman, Emma Thompson, Nicholas Galitzine, Nicholas Braun, Molly Gordon and Hong Chau do a nice work, but it's the voice acting ensemble that totally steals the show by giving a soul to the smart flock: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Bryan Cranston excel here without being physically on screen. It's not the greatest movie of the year at all, but it was a pleasant surprise.
