"The Ides of March" in Venice; Penn Badgley as Jeff Buckley?; "The Hobbit" and next Woody Allen movie cast announcements; "A Dangerous Method" trailer;
- The upcoming George Clooney directed political drama The Ides of March, an adaptation of the play Farragut North, will open the distinguished Venice Film Festival at 31st August, 2011. The movie was written and directed by Clooney and it has a cast composed by Ryan Gosling (Blue Valentine), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Capote), Marisa Tomei (The Wrestler), Paul Giamatti (Sideways), Evan Rachel Wood (Across the Universe) and... Clooney himself. The movie have been taken as a serious awards contender and being accepted as part of the official selection of Venice only increases the buzz around it. The drama, that takes place during the Ohio primary for the Democratic nomination, will be distributed by Sony Pictures next fall.
- Penn Badgley, an actor who may know if you already watched Easy A, will play the legendary Jeff Buckley in a movie called Greetings from Tim Buckley. According to Collider, "The film will center on the days leading up to Buckley’s 1991 performance at his father’s (the late Tim Buckley) tribute concert and will feature a romance with a young woman who helps him better understand his father who died at the age of 28" and it will be directed by Dan Algrant. To be completely honest, I don't think Badgley has already showed enough acting skills in order to portray such a talented man like Jeff Buckley, but it may be his opportunity to show some acting chops... Good luck and do your best, Badgley, because Buckley deserves it!
- For Woody Allen movie: "New York (June 20, 2011) – Woody Allen announced today the full cast for “The Bop Decameron,” his latest film in pre-production. Starring, in alphabetical order, are: Woody Allen, Alec Baldwin, Roberto Benigni, Penélope Cruz, Judy Davis, Jesse Eisenberg, Greta Gerwig and Ellen Page. Co-stars include Antonio Albanese, Fabio Armiliata, Alessandra Mastronardi, Ornella Muti, Flavio Parenti, Alison Pill, Riccardo Scamarcio and Alessandro Tiberi"
- For The Hobbit, Evangeline Lilly (Lost TV series) and Barry Humphries (Finding Nemo) have joined the cast of the two-part adaptation movie, The Hobbit, currently filming in New Zealand. Lilly will be playing Tauriel, a Woodland Elf. Humphries will play the Goblin King, using motion-capture, like Andy Serkis’ performance of Gollum.
- David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method trailer is out. To be completely honest, I was expecting a less sexual thing, in spite of knowing that everything around Freud is about sexuality. The roles seem Oscar-friendly and the atmosphere of the movie seems great. Knightley seems to have a juicy role and may deliver a great performance, but her Russian accent seems a bit strange to me. Fassbender and Mortensen look great as always and seem to do a great job. Overall, the movie seems great but controversial, but, once again, GREAT! Here's the trailer:
