Quick awards roundup: Golden Globe winners and SAG Awards nominees (PART 2)

Last week was a busy week awards-wise. The Golden Globes took place and the SAG announced their nominees. With the boycott around the Golden Globes, SAG Award rise as the major Oscar precursor. In addition, a big couple of critics groups have announced their winners, but that's a matter for another post (since they are so many).
But let's have a look.

GOLDEN GLOBES
The 79th Golden Globe Awards winners were announced on Sunday night via social media and not  in a nationally televised gala, like the years before - a "must" stop moment for movie stars and celebrities who get together to celebrate their movies and... well, get dr*nk! It marks the Hollywood FOREIGN Press Association's fall from grace experienced over the past year since a piece of Los Angeles Times revealed that the organization included zero Black members and was involved in some suspect financial practices.
Still, some studios celebrated the wins via social media (like 20th Century Studios, which backs West Side Story, for example)... Is this some goodwill towards the organizations' efforts to turn HFPA more inclusive and diverse? Maybe next year things will get better...
So, despiste no one (officially) admits the Golden Globes are an important opinion-maker for AMPAS voters, the truth is I still believe they are, so we can't just ignore the nominees shortlists and the winners!

SAG AWARDS
Unlike what I was predicting, West Side Story actually did poorly with SAG-AFTRA! I was expecting Spielberg's latest to get an Outstanding Performance by a Cast, Supporting Actress (DeBose and, maybe Moreno), Supporting Actor (Mike Faist) and an Outstanding Stunt Ensemble noms, but I was wrong - only Ariana DeBose made the cut! I learned then that 20th Century only sent the screening quite late in the voting process, so, not enough nominations committee members have seen it for sure. Another shocking misses are Kristen Stewart for Spencer (arguably the Best Actress frontrunner until now), the Belfast men (both Ciarán Hinds and Jamie Dornan missed the cut despite the Ensemble nomination) and Ellis (who's outstanding in King Richard, she must have lost her spot for the acting goddess Cate Blanchett, who got a surprise nom for Nightmare Alley). The Power of the Dog also missing Outstanding Performance by a Cast is quite surprising, but it got 3 nominations across the board (and movies like The Shape of Water or Nomadland still managed to WIN Best Picture at the Oscars despite missing this crucial precursor award nomination).
Still, we all know SAG's voting committee is different every year and that not every SAG members votes for the nominees shortlist. And we all know SAG loves stars in showy performances: that explains House of Gucci and Don't Look Up nominations here (and that's the only valid reason to nominated the uncontroled Jared Leto in House of Gucci, in a Razzie-worthy turn).
A very positive note: Ben Affleck getting some love for the best performance of his acting career for The Tender Bar (I am rooting for him); Jennifer Hudson rises in the Best Actress race for her performance in the Aretha Franklin biopic Respect, turning things even messier in that category; CODA ensemble nomination and Troy Kotsur nod, as they are the first def actor and cast ever nominated here (correct me if I am wrong); and Black Widow's nomination for Stunts, which are incredible!

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses with or under 35 years old: 2018

I think it was my TOP 35 under 35 list I've ever done since I remember: so many great performers emerged last year with distinguished performances that elevated their previous works (I'm talking about Elizabeth Olsen , Lucas Hedges , Robert Pattinson , Gaspard Ulliel , Tessa Thompson or Jamie Bell , for example). I'm kinda sad I felt "forced" at letting Jonah Hill ( Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street ) and Emma Watson ( The Perks of Being a Wallflower , The Bling Ring and 2017's Beauty and the Beast ) out of the list. Congratulations to Kirsten Dunst , who turned 35 last year so she can not be included in this year's list - such an amazing child actress turned movie star, who delivered memorable performances in Interview with the Vampire (1994), The Virgin Suicides (1999), The Cat's Meow (2002) or Melancholia (2011). This year, Saoirse Ronan tops the list thanks to two great performances: On Chesil Beach and an iconic acting turn in Lad
