REVIEW: "Parasite"

Forget whatever you heard about Parasite besides "it is great!". This movie starts building a plot that makes you believe it will go one way, but then you understand it is going elsewhere. No plot twists - it's a very fluid narrative thanks to Bong Joon-ho's assured direction and the movie succeeds because of his ability to tell you a story with style while engaging the audience.
First of all, it's a smart movie and a movie we needed! It is a movie about people who only want a better life and Bong Joon-ho first introduces the characters as extremely empathetic people despite some flaws - you know they are humble and they dream of being able to afford a more confortable house, but that's the least of their problems. It all starts with ambition with the try of ascending the social ladder somehow: those evil schemes and plots and lies... Suddenly, you get the Kims are parasites who are willing to suck everything from their hosts, the Parks. High praise for Song Kang-ho and Choi Woo-shik in particular: these actors totally embrace their characters' nuances and flaws and they deliver the strongest acting work in the movie, also because the script benefits them by large. Cho Yeo-jeong also shines as a neurotic wife who lives to look good and be great for her husband so nothing LOOKS less than "perfect".
Besides the direction, the script and the acting, Parasite has another strong points who might not be expecting to see this polished in a regular non-Hollywood production: a brilliant editing work that keeps everything in motion and never gets you tired; and a great production design work that's used (brilliantly) to show the audiences how different the Kims and the Parks are (but it's impossible not to be astonished with the Parks mansion!).
To be honest, I would love to be able to tell you more about Parasite, but it would be impossible to do without spoiling this movie. It's one of the greatest movies of the year for sure! Thrilling, sometimes funny and with a lot of social commentary, Parasite is an unexpected masterpiece that managed to surprise me (and I had high hopes around this movie because of the reactions and reviews I've read!).
Thanks Bong Joon-ho, it was delightful to watch and it will be impossible to forget a movie like this!

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur...

ACTOR/ACTRESS OF THE MONTH: Michelle, ma belle

Michelle Pfeiffer Born: April 29, 1958 in Santa Ana, California, USA Oscar recognition:  1989 - Best Supporting Actress for Dangerous Liaisons (nom)  1990 - Best Leading Actress for The Fabulous Baker Boys (nom)  1993 - Best Leading Actress for Love Field (nom) One of the most beautiful women that ever walked on Earth, Michelle Pfeiffer was the A-list of the A-list in the late 80's and in the begining of the 90's, managing to get 6 Golden Globe nominations (winning one) 6 years in a round, for 6 amazing performances. She called attentions with her charm and voice in the movie musical flop Grease 2 , but she started gaining a "serious actress reputation" after appearing in Brian de Palma's Scarface . After Scarface , she became the biggest Hollywood movie star and delivered iconic performances as Susie Diamond in The Fabulous Baker Boys and as Selina Kyle/Catwoman in Tim Burton's Batman Returns .  After some years away from stardo...
