Academy Awards 2011 Best Supporting Actor nominees predictions (3rd round)

Christian Bale for The Fighter - Bale is one of those actors who are very overdue for an Oscar nomination, specially when he has such a great body of work with amazing performances in every movie he does (Empire of the Sun (1987), Little Women (1994), American Psycho (2000), The Machinist (2004), Batman Begins (2005), The New World (2005), The Prestige (2006), I'm Not There (2007), 3:10 to Yuma (2007) and The Dark Knight (2008)). He has the talent, he has the previous critical acclaim, he's well-known, he's overdue for an Oscar and he plays a boxer in The Fighter: he has everything to get a nod for Best Supporting Actor this year if the movie will received critical praise. Did you ever see The Fighter movie trailers? Bale seems simply amazing, his performance seems something that I never saw from him! I think the Academy should recognize such an amazing actor and don't snub him, again...

Andrew Garfield for The Social Network - Garfield is becoming a well-known face in the cinema industry, specially after this year. He wasn't already a strange face for the British audiences, but after the acclaimed Never Let Me Go and, mostly, David Fincher's The Social Network, Garfield is raising as a big promise for the cinema. His performance in The Social Network gave him raves from the critics and the Hollywood Award of Breakthrough Actor (also for his performance in Never Let Me Go), which makes Garfield a serious Oscar contender. Plus, he benefits from the "OSCAR FAVORITE TO BEST PICTURE" factor because of the Facebook movie and there's also another reason that the Academy may have to nominate him: he will be the next Peter Parker in the upcoming untitled Spider-man reboot and the Academy may want to recognize him before he becomes globaly famous. At the moment, Garfield is a strong contender to a nod.

Mark Ruffalo for The Kids Are All Right - with such an highly praised reception, The Kids Are All Right seems to become the responsible movie for some of the best reviews that some actors have ever received and one of them is Mark Ruffalo. In fact, Ruffalo is another Oscar overdue actor and it seems that, this year, the Academy will recognize some actors and actresses that were snubed in the past. According with all the critics in general, Ruffalo delivers an ordinary performance as a sperm donnator who estabilished contact with his unknown sons who live with their lesbian mums. He has a great body of work, is a very capable actor and made part of THE indie movie of this Summer, so an Oscar nod is very well-deserved.

Geoffrey Rush for The King's Speech - In The King's Speech, Rush plays the king's speech therapist, having a kind of co-leading role in this one. Critics loved his performance, like all the cast's in general, but Rush's character is a really showy one and a kind of funny scene-stealer and it seems that his chemistry with Colin Firth is great too. In fact, Rush was already recognized by the Academy, so it can be great for him in the way that he's already loved by the voters, so he'll get a nod, at least. He also benefits from the movie's sucess in the way that it is a BIG contender for a Best Picture win alongside The Social Network. A nod seems guaranteed for Mr. Rush.

Justin Timberlake for The Social Network - the Academy loves when famous singers deliver a good performance on big screen and Justin Timberlake's role in David Fincher's The Social Network is a scene-stealing one and the Academy loves it even more! The reviews about Timberlake's performance are great and he seems to have everything to get a nomination, including all the media attentions. Plus, his character is a kind of villain and the Academy loves bad guys. The Social Network will score another nomination thanks to Timberlake, that's almost sure!

in consideration: Josh Brolin (True Grit); John Hawkes (Winter's Bone); Sam Rockwell (Conviction);

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur...

Oscars 2025 nominations predictions: all categories (2nd ROUND)

The award season has started with the NBR and AFI naming their best movies of the year, two of the trifeca (NYFCC and LAFCA), the Golden Globe nominations and the Critics' Choice Awards nominations (the later being the one I consider the least relevant predict-wise, since it seems mostly based on the GoldDerby pundits predictions as an attempt to get a strong correlation with the final Oscar nominations) - so, it's time to publish my new Oscar nominations predictions for the 97th edition of the Academy Awards BEFORE the Golden Globes ceremony and the SAG Award and BAFTA Award nominees are announced! The big distributors have already selected their "champions", the ones they will campaign aiming for the cinematic gold, which is an important element to have in mind, since it's extremely unlikely for a film to pop at the Oscars without a proper "behind the scene" promotion games. And there's the "Oscar type", a concept that has been changing l...
