Academy Awards 2011 Best Supporting Actress nominees predictions (3rd round)

Helena Bonham Carter for The King's Speech - Helena Boham Carter is married with Tim Burton and is oftenly seen in her husband's works and in the Harry Potter franchise's movies, so her role as Elizabeth, the Queen consort of King George VI of UK is something different from what she have been done since some years ago and may give her a second Oscar nod. In fact, playing the English royalty is almost a guaranteed of Oscar or Oscar buzz and it seems that her performance is something great according to the critics, which is a guarantee of an Oscar nomination. The King's Speech may not be focused in her character, but Mrs. Burton is an awesome actress and knows how to call all the attentions to her and I've a feeling that she will do the same with the Oscar voters. Will she win? Maybe, it's possible, definetly!

Marion Cotillard for Inception - the French Academy's darling may not have a big role in the movie of the year so far (I'm talking about Inception, of course!), but in every scene she appears she steals the audience's attentions. The way she plays the character (a kind of scary and psycho "bogeywoman") and her intriguing, strange and angelic beauty make us wanting to see more from her in the movie. She already won an Oscar for portraying Édith Piaf in La Vie En Rose and received raves and some nods for her performance in Nine and also got praise in Public Enemies. Maybe there are better performances than Marion Cotillard's amazing one, but she has the advantage of being part of the movie of the Summer and being the best chance of Inception get an acting nod by the Academy (behind her we have Leonardo Di Caprio as a dark horse), so I wouldn't be surprised if she will beat some names and get a nomination for the Oscar of Best Supporting Actress.

Lesley Manville for Another Year - she shinned a lot in Cannes and there were some people contesting the fact of she didn't win the prize of best female performance in the role of an achoolic woman who tries to find some meaning for her life between her friends in the most recent Mike Leigh's work (Another Year). In fact, it seems that the Academy likes to give nods to Mike Leigh's movie's actresses (the amazing performance by Sally Hawkins in Happy-Go-Lucky doesn't count) and Lesley Manville may be the next one easily, specially with such a lot of buzz around her and in spite of some category placement problems (but I think she's supporting and that the producers will promote her as supporting actress, specially with an even more competitive race in the Best Leading Actress category!). Go Lesley, go (and don't forget the wine from Argentina to comemorate)!

Jacki Weaver for Animal Kingdom - Jacki Weaver is a relatively unknown actress (completly unkown for me before watching the Animal Kingdom's movie trailer), but it seems that she is getting some Oscar buzz for her performance in the Australian movie Animal Kingdom, as an evil matriarch of a family of criminals. The Academy loves unknown faces and the role of the villain/monster-mum. My only concern is the competition this year, which makes the Best Supporting Actress almost unpredictable, specially with some names that are some of the Academy's "sweethearts", but I think that there is a strong possibility of Jacki Weaver being nominated and, maybe, take the gold home.

Dianne Wiest for Rabbit Hole - Diane Wiest have been away from juicy roles and now, with Rabbit Hole, she seems to be back to them. She is loved by the Academy, scoring two wins, and the Oscar voters love grandmothers, specially with grief issues, and the critics raved her, describing her as "terrific" and "one of the standouts of the movie alongside Nicole Kidman", which is something great, specially when you know that, well, Rabbit Hole is Nicole Kidman's movie. So, why not a nomination for her? Academy love, talent, serious actress, juicy role, acclaimed movie... Yes, I smell Oscar perfume in the air for her!

in consideration: Elle Fanning (Somewhere); Barbara Hershey (Black Swan); Melissa Leo (The Fighter);

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses with or under 35 years old: 2018

I think it was my TOP 35 under 35 list I've ever done since I remember: so many great performers emerged last year with distinguished performances that elevated their previous works (I'm talking about Elizabeth Olsen , Lucas Hedges , Robert Pattinson , Gaspard Ulliel , Tessa Thompson or Jamie Bell , for example). I'm kinda sad I felt "forced" at letting Jonah Hill ( Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street ) and Emma Watson ( The Perks of Being a Wallflower , The Bling Ring and 2017's Beauty and the Beast ) out of the list. Congratulations to Kirsten Dunst , who turned 35 last year so she can not be included in this year's list - such an amazing child actress turned movie star, who delivered memorable performances in Interview with the Vampire (1994), The Virgin Suicides (1999), The Cat's Meow (2002) or Melancholia (2011). This year, Saoirse Ronan tops the list thanks to two great performances: On Chesil Beach and an iconic acting turn in Lad
