Academy Awards 2011 Best Director nominees predictions (3rd round)

Darren Aronofsky for Black Swan - Aronofsky is a very respected director with great movies like Requiem for a Dream and The Wrestler in his amazing body of work and, now, it seems that he finally has a great chance to be recognized by the Academy. Black Swan was a sensation in Venice Film Festival, receiving a lot of critical praise and the director received raves too, specially because of the complexity of his amazing work with an awesome result. The movie seems by far one of the best movies of the year and has a nod in the Best Picture category almost guaranteed, but everyone knows that behind a good movie is a good director. So, let's see if it is in this race that Aronofsky will get his Best Director Oscar nod, but he has to face a strong competition with a couple of a-long-time-overdue-for-a-win directors... Let's see if he will be one of the five choosen by the Academy... I would vote for him.

Lisa Cholodenko for The Kids Are All Right - being the director and writer of one of the most acclaimed movies of the year, Lisa Cholodenko may see her work being recognized by the Academy for The Kids Are All Right. In fact, she wrote a very good script (but we're not talking about screenplays yet) and made good actors shine like they never did before. A good director is the one who, besides being able to make a good movie, is able to make his/her movie's cast deliver good performance, which means that a good actor must have a lot of sensibility and Cholodenko proved that directing a sucessful and acclaimed indie movie like The Kids Are All Right. Last year, the Academy awarded a female director, I think they won't be affraid to deserve another one when she deserves it...

David Fincher for The Social Network - the same director who brought to the audiences incredible movies like Se7en, Fight Club or The Curious Case of Benjamin Button seems to be on fire in this Oscar race in the directing category due to his critically acclaimed masterpiece The Social Network, known also as "The Facebook Movie". At the first time, The Social Network was seen as a joke for some people who don't understand about cinema, because they couldn't think one simple think: David Fincher is directing it. In fact, Fincher's direction was raved by the critics and the movie also received commercial sucess and is on the race as the main contender to take the Best Picture Oscar home, alongside The King's Speech. At the moment, I think Fincher is the strongest contender to a nod and to a win, not only because of his work in The Facebook Movie, but also because of how respected he is in the cinema industry. Go Fincher! Go!

Tom Hooper for The King's Speech - to be completly honest, I didn't know Hooper's work until the day I heard that The King's Speech got a lot of critical praise. In fact, Mr. Hooper may benefit from all the buzz his latest work is getting in the Best Picture category and it may give him an Oscar nod of Best Director. He has no GREAT body of work and he isn't overdue for a nod or for a win, so, I can say that if he will get nominated it won't happen because of the things he did in the past but only because of his work. He seems to have a guaranteed place between the final five, but will the Academy give his chair to an overdue director? I think that it won't happen!

Christopher Nolan for Inception - the director of the Summer movie of the year. Nolan is overdue for an Oscar nod for directing after such amazing movies like Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige or The Dark Knight and Inception rules as an high-grossing and highly critically acclaimed movie with an amazing directing work! He is already an Oscar nominee man, but in the Best Screenplay category thanks to the disturbing/strange/innovative Memento. This year, Nolan's directing work won't be snubed by the Academy, almost for sure, specially when his work received both commercial and crittical sucess.

in consideration: Danny Boyle (127 Hours); Ethan and Joel Cohen (True Grit); Debra Granik (Winter's Bone);

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today - 2017

The almost annual TOP 35 Actors and Actresses Under 35 Working Today is out, with me considering the performers' performances of 2016 also. We have a few changes since last year's list, with Greta Gerwig toping the list thanks to her last 3 great performances in Mistress America , Maggie's Plan and the Oscar buzzy acting turn in 20th Century Women . Scarlett Johansson comes second with her latest distinguished performance being in 2014 ( Under the Skin ), but she managed to be at the spotligh this year thanks to her fine turns in critically acclaimed movies: Hail, Caesar! , Captain America: Civil War , The Jungle Book (voice) and Sing (voice). Emily Blunt adds another great performance to her resume in The Girl on the Train and she comes third, while Elle Fanning 's turning into one of the finest actresses and she's getting to play more adult and complex parts like The Neon Demon  and 20th Century Women 's (her two best performances since Super 8 ). TOP 10 Most Promising Movie Actors (under 30)

Today I discussed about how awful some "teen icons" are and then we talked about some exceptions. So, I decided to make a little list, a TOP 10, with the male actors that I think that will become music in an ocean of noise somewhere in the future (I did one list before, but it was a little bit pathetic and I didn't justify my choices). Let's start... 1 - Ryan Gosling He may not have a huge list of movies in his body of work, but the few times he makes something, all the time he almost carries the movie. In fact, Gosling is a proof that talent does exist and that you don't need excentrical characters to receive raves. He rose to fame after the big screen adaptation of The Notebook (2004) and then received lots of critical praise for his performances in movies like Half Nelson (that gave him an Oscar, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations), Lars and the Real Girl (that gave him a Golden Globe, a SAG Award and other major awards nominations) and Fractur

TOP 35 Actors and Actresses with or under 35 years old: 2018

I think it was my TOP 35 under 35 list I've ever done since I remember: so many great performers emerged last year with distinguished performances that elevated their previous works (I'm talking about Elizabeth Olsen , Lucas Hedges , Robert Pattinson , Gaspard Ulliel , Tessa Thompson or Jamie Bell , for example). I'm kinda sad I felt "forced" at letting Jonah Hill ( Moneyball and The Wolf of Wall Street ) and Emma Watson ( The Perks of Being a Wallflower , The Bling Ring and 2017's Beauty and the Beast ) out of the list. Congratulations to Kirsten Dunst , who turned 35 last year so she can not be included in this year's list - such an amazing child actress turned movie star, who delivered memorable performances in Interview with the Vampire (1994), The Virgin Suicides (1999), The Cat's Meow (2002) or Melancholia (2011). This year, Saoirse Ronan tops the list thanks to two great performances: On Chesil Beach and an iconic acting turn in Lad
